Resulting Product
With our cost-effective onion grading and packing lines, your resulting onions will be without a tail and loose skin, uniformly graded according to user-defined grading categories, and packed in your preferred packing option.
The final package is mostly determined by the markets to which you plan to export and the preferences of your customers. Quadra can set up automatic bagging machines to obtain the desired onion bags such as wicket bags, raschel bags, and net bags with printed labels.

Onion Processing Machines
Box Tipping
At the inlet, the box tipper is designed to gently dump the onions onto a conveyor or a receiving hopper. The tipping angle and elevation are carefully adjusted to prevent the onions from being damaged by falling aggressively on the line.
Onion Topper
The onion topper is a machine that removes the onions' tails and loose skin by means of knives that rotate under vibrating sieves. The tails of the onions fall through the vibrating sieves and are then chopped off by knives underneath. Because of the ‘quick-lock' method, changing the sieves of the machines is a breeze. The onion topping machine is made to be easy to use and safe for the products.
Shake Grading
When it comes to classifying onions by size, the shake grader comes in handy. It has a unique grading system that sizes the onions in four dimensions rather than just by diameter. The shake grader is made up of several levels of vibrating sieves that get smaller in size with each level. The onions are fed into the shake grader at the very top, where the sieves are the largest and fall through each level depending on their size. The resulting onions at each level are evenly sized and ready to be packed.
Radial Grading
The radial grader is a different type of grading machine that is used to size onions based on their diametrical size. It has a special conveyor made of laterally spaced stainless-steel rollers. The onions fit between the spinning rollers whose gaps widen gradually as the conveyor moves forward. As a result, the smallest onions will fall near the beginning of the grader where the gap is smallest, and the largest onions will fall at the end. Several horizontal belt conveyors beneath the radial grader collect the falling onions and transport them towards categorized exits for each size range where they can be packed. The customer can choose the diameter size ranges he wants at each exit.
Optical Sorting
Our onion sorting machine can be connected to your existing onion processing line. Since onion batches contain a high number of defects and foreign materials, the optical sorter becomes essential for removing the defective onions and unwanted objects. Our optical sorters use a cutting-edge vision software, illumination setup, and cameras to detect even the most challenging defects in size, color, and quality at incredible speeds.
Retail Packaging
One of the most popular methods of packing onions at the end of a processing line is in net bags or raschel bags that can range from 0.25 kg to 5 kg in size. In retail specifically, graded onions in beautifully finished net bags with a branded label can be very attractive to customers at supermarkets. This is where our net bagging machines are excellent for packing your onions into your own branded net bags. After the onions are graded, they are conveyed to the automatic weighing machine which calculates the exact amount of onions to drop into the bagging machine. The resulting net bags are filled with evenly sized onions and have a consistent weight as desired by the user.
Bag Filling
Another bagging option at the end of the processing line is to pack higher volumes of onions in your preferred packaging in order to sell them in bulk, store them in a distribution center, or transport them to be processed further. Our bag filling machines can pack your graded onions into huge boxes, sacks, and net bags in an efficient and safe manner. They are strategically installed at different exits of the grading machine so that the evenly sized onions are loaded in the same bag.
