Optical Sorters for Onions
Onions are difficult products to process as they carry a high percentage of defects and foreign objects in every batch. Thus, Quadra's onion sorting machine is critical for your onion processing line to sort the perfect from the bad onions and to remove unwanted material. Our sorters are easy to integrate into any onion processing line and handle all varieties, including red, white, peeled, unpeeled, chopped, sliced, and diced onions. Our optical sorting machines employ the most advanced vision software, lighting system, and cameras to detect at incredibly high speeds the size, color, and even the most difficult quality defects.

Onion Sorting Technology
High-Resolution Optical Lenses
Our onion sorting machines incorporate high-speed, high-resolution color and NIR cameras that are advantageously placed on opposing sides of the falling products. This enables our vision system to collect several images of each onion's whole surface area, allowing for a thorough inspection of each product to detect any faults, defects, and foreign objects with high precision..
Pulsed LED Technology
Our sorting machines use a pulsed LED light source as a main advantage in detecting tough defects in the processed fruits and vegetables. The onions in this case are exposed to extremely fast strobing lights of variable frequencies in the NIR and visual light spectrums. This enables our cameras to collect several images of the onions under the influence of different light sources and therefore detect irregularities that are invisible to the naked eye.
Sorting for Onion Defects
By means of a calculated setup of pulsed LED lighting, high-speed RGB and infrared cameras, and an intelligent vision software, our onion sorting machine can detect with maximum precision and minute accuracy variations in the size, color, shape, and quality of each onion. The resulting products will perfectly match your preferences and are devoid of irregulaties such as mold, peel, rot, and more. In addition, the onion sorter can easily remove any extraneous material like plastic, wood, mud, and rocks that may be present in the batch being processing.
High-Speed Precision
Finger Rejection System
At the end of the optical sorter, the onions begin their freefall where a finger ejection system swiftly and precisely rejects the defective ones based on the sorting parameters specified by the user. The finger rejection can be setup by default into a 2-way mode for accepted and rejected onions, or a 3-way mode for perfect, completely defective, and second choice products that are still usable for you.
